Oklahoma State University (OSU) conducted research on a commercial herd in Wyoming that evaluated Salers-Hereford, Angus-Hereford and Hereford females during their fi rst three years of production. The cows were managed under harsh range conditions as a group for the entire length of the study. Data was collected and analyzed by OSU personnel. The results were dramatic: there was 153 pounds of calf weaned MORE per cow exposed advantage for Salers-cross compared to Angus cross females over
the three-year period. This amounts to an added 51 pounds of calf per cow exposed per year. With Salers, more cows got bred. The Salers cows weaned more pounds of calf and had greater overall production. It’s time to add Salers to your cowherd.

Salers have unbeatable calving-ease genetics. The American Salers Association has 92,000-plus calving ease scores on two-year-old females, 94.6% percent calved unassisted.

More live calves = more profit with each live calf. By cutting death loss at birth in half, producers could increase gross returns by $32.77 for each cow. It's common for commercial herds who utilize Salers to report a 98+% live calf crop.
